MLC Upgrade
Melbourne Water (via Safety Focused Performance JV)
Overview
Tradetech Services Australia (TSA) delivered the complete civil and concrete works package for the WTP Pond 55 East Mechanical Lagoon Control (MLC) Upgrade. The project involved construction of structural elements to support electrical and mechanical infrastructure within an active water treatment facility. Works were undertaken in a constrained, environmentally sensitive environment, requiring strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental controls while ensuring precise alignment for integration with prefabricated equipment and services.
Scope of Works
TSA completed excavation, reinforcement, formwork, and concrete placement for slabs, plinths, and pits along the lagoon embankment. Works included installation of cast-in conduits, ferrules, and hold-down bolts to support electrical systems. High-strength concrete was placed to meet durability requirements for wet and coastal conditions. All activities were delivered in accordance with AS3600 standards, supported by compaction, curing, and comprehensive quality assurance documentation.
Delivery Methodology
TSA implemented a controlled and quality-driven delivery approach suited to an operational water treatment environment. Works were carefully sequenced to maintain safe access and minimise disruption to ongoing facility operations. Precision surveying and formwork ensured accurate placement of structural elements and embedded services. Strict QA processes, including inspection hold points and curing controls, were applied throughout. Coordination with electrical and mechanical teams ensured seamless integration of all infrastructure components.
Outcomes
The project was successfully delivered on schedule, achieving high-quality structural finishes suitable for long-term performance and equipment installation. TSA maintained full compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems, with zero safety incidents recorded. Accurate alignment of conduits and service penetrations supported efficient downstream installation. The project demonstrates TSA’s capability to deliver durable, high-precision concrete infrastructure within complex and environmentally sensitive operational facilities.
