Overview

Tradetech Services Australia (TSA) undertook emergency works following a high-voltage (HV) cable fault affecting supply between the National Herbarium Kiosk and the Observatory substations. The faulted section, identified on CitiPower’s network schematic, required immediate isolation and the establishment of a new conduit route to restore network integrity. Operating under urgent conditions, TSA mobilised rapidly to deliver critical civil infrastructure works, ensuring minimal disruption and enabling timely restoration of power to the affected network.

Scope of Works

TSA completed all civil works required to establish a new conduit pathway and support cable reinstatement. This included site investigation, fault identification, trenching along an existing gravel access road, and installation of 4 × 125 mm and 1 × 63 mm PVC conduits. Works also involved constructing a new conduit bank, integrating into existing infrastructure, connecting to the joint bay on Dallas Brooks Drive, and undertaking full backfilling, compaction, and reinstatement of disturbed surfaces.

Delivery Methodology

TSA implemented a rapid-response delivery approach tailored to emergency conditions. Following fault identification, crews were mobilised to safely isolate the affected section and commence trenching works. Installation of conduits and integration with existing systems were carefully sequenced to align with CitiPower requirements. Close coordination with CitiPower ensured efficient cable installation, testing, and commissioning. Strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards enabled works to be completed efficiently within a live network environment.

Outcomes

The emergency works were completed promptly and with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment. TSA’s efficient delivery enabled CitiPower to restore supply to the Observatory distribution network within the required timeframe. The project demonstrated TSA’s capability to respond to critical infrastructure faults with speed, precision, and professionalism, reinforcing its reputation for delivering reliable outcomes in high-pressure, time-sensitive utility environments.
